 Hello friends, what about flax seed chutney powder?

If ever you have visited NORTH KARNATAKA, You might have come across many special chutney powders such as FLAX SEEDS chutney powder, GURRELLU, or NIGER SEEDS chutney powder, Groundnut or peanut chutney powder, etc.

These are all used with the main dishes to add extra taste to your palate, as pickles do.

Today I am going to show you, a very healthy flax seeds chutney powder. Before making it, I would like to explain to you about the flax seeds.

FLAXSEEDS- The seeds are tiny, brown, shiny oval, and flat in shape.
These seeds can be consumed or used in a raw form, as well as roasted, or in powdered form.
Examples are smoothies, salads, yogurt, chutney powders, and Baking. Today we will be using Flax seeds (roasted) with a few spices to make a healthy and tasty chutney powder. you will love the taste of flax seed chutney powder from North Karnataka.

  • Health benefits of flax seeds:-
    These small wonderful seeds have a lot of nutrients in them
  • This seed is the only one, that has the plant-based omega-3 fatty acid, which lowers blood pressure and also reduces triglycerides, thus preventing the risks of heart attack and strokes.
  • It has high fiber in it, so helps in easy bowel movement and thus helps in digestive health.
  • lt helps in weight loss as the fiber present in the seed, takes a longer time to digest and keeps your stomach fuller for a long time.
  • The seed has anti-oxidants to boost health.
  • Vitamin k present in the seed helps in the resistance of blood clotting.
  • The seeds have two important substances called LUTEIN AND ZEAXAMTHIN, which help to improve and maintain vision health.
  • It has another substance called LIGNANS which helps in fighting cancer cells.

Ingredients needed for FLAX SEED CHUTNEY POWDER:-

  • 1 Cup-flax seed
  • 1-tablespoon-urad dal
  • 8-10 numbers of red chilies
  • 1 cup dry coconut scrapings
  • 3/4 cup of curry leaves
  • 1/2 lemon-sized tamarind
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered jaggery
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 pinch of asafoetida or hing
  • 1 teaspoon of oil

Instructions for making flax seed chutney powder

  • Sieve and clean flax seeds.
  • Grate dry coconut and keep it ready.
  • Dry roast the urad dal on a low flame in a frying pan and keep aside.
    When the dal turns golden with a nice aroma, remove it to a plate.

  • Now clean the flax seeds, put them into the heated pan, and dry roast for a minute.

  • CONTINUE ROASTING TILL YOU SEE AND HEAR A POPPING SOUND
  • Now remove from the pan onto a plate.
  • Now put about a teaspoon of oil and the RED CHILIES.
  • Add the curry leaves too and roast together., till the chilies are crispy

  • Now in the hot pan, put the tamarind pieces.

  • Put off the flame now and add dry grated coconut gratings.

  • A hot frying pan has enough heat to roast the coconut to a little golden color.

GRINDING OF FLAX SEED CHUTNEY POWDER:-

  • Firstly, grind the red chilies, urad dal, tamarind, and curry leaves into a coarse powder in a mixer jar.

  • Now add salt, and jaggery to the powder.

  • Add the coconut powder at last.

Combine all of them and again run the mixer for 2-3 seconds, so that the chutney powder gets a homogeneous texture and taste
