CUCUMBER FLAVORED MASALA IDLY

Let us see the ingredients needed to make this SOFT, SPONGY, CUCUMBER FLAVORED MASALA IDLY
- Semolina-1 cup (medium fine)
- Cucumber-1 medium size(grated 1 cup)
- Onion-1 big finely cut
- Bengal gram dal (Chana dal)-1/4 cup (washed and soaked for one hour)
- Freshly grated coconut-1 cup
- Water-1 to 1 1/2 cup
- Green chilies-5-7 finely chopped
- Ginger-1 inch (grated)
- Curry leaves-15-20 leaves finely chopped
- Fresh coriander leaves- a small bunch (washed and finely chopped)
- Cumin seeds-1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
- Salt-1 level teaspoon or according to taste.
PREPARATIONS NEEDED FOR MAKING BATTER FOR CUCUMBER-FLAVORED MASALA IDLY
- Select a firm and fresh cucumber.
- Wash and peel. Remove the seeds if they are not tender.
- Grate the cucumber.
- Peel and cut the onion into small pieces.
- Wash and chop the Green chilies, curry leaves and Coriander leaves.
- Grate the ginger after washing it.
- Soak the chana dal in hot water after washing to make the soaking process faster.
- Grate 1/2 portion of the coconut (1 cup gratings)
- Roast the semolina in a pan on low flame till you get a nice aroma and color.
- Meanwhile, boil the water. (one and a half cups)
METHOD OF PREPARING CUCUMBER FLAVORED MASALA IDLY BATTER
- Take a mixing bowl.
- Put the roasted semolina in it.
- Add 1 cup of water and the grated cucumber.
- Also add soaked chana dal, freshly grated coconut, turmeric powder, grated ginger, chopped curry leaves, green chilies, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, and salt.
- NOTE: YOU CAN ALSO ADD LEMON JUICE (OF 1 LIME) AND HING. (OPTIONAL)
- Combine all of them.
- keep it covered for 1/2 an hour.
- This is for the semolina to soak the moisture and swell so that the idly comes out soft.
- After 1/2 an hour add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water and mix once again, to make a semi-liquid pouring consistency. (like idly batter)
- Keep a steamer or a cooker and put 1 glass of water at the base and keep on a medium flame to boil.
- Meanwhile, start greasing the idly plates.(mold)
- Pour a small ladle full of batter into each of the molds on the plate.
- Keep them in the steamer to steam for about 10-12 mts.
- Un-mold them with a spoon
- Serve hot with Ghee.
