Want to have a very quick, nice, crunchy, and yummy snack?
Then there is one for you.
Today, I shall be showing you a very easy and tasty Tea time Snack- “BANANA CHIPS”.
You can make banana chips from any variety of bananas.
Normal bananas are available almost everywhere. and
special bananas from Kerala called NENDRAN BANANA.
I will be using the Kerala Banana.
The nendran variety of Bananas is the most popular in Kerala. These are large and yellow, sweet in flavor, and have a distinct texture.
It is the lengthiest and biggest variety of bananas. when it is still raw, is used for making chips or wafers.
Banana chips are easy to make and healthier than potato chips.

- It is very high in fiber so is good for those who have constipation.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED ARE FEW FOR MAKING BANANA CHIPS
- Raw Nendran bananas-3-4 in numbers
- Water-1/4 cup
- Table salt-1-heaped teaspoon
- Coconut oil-enough to deep fry(300 ml)
- Red chilly powder-1 teaspoon
- Black pepper powder-1 teaspoon
TOOLS FOR CUTTING THE CHIPS
- Cutting tray-
- Sharp knife
- Slicer to make chips.
KEEP OIL TO HEAT FOR DEEP FRYING ON A MEDIUM FLAME
Method of making chips:-(peeling)
- First, we have to peel the bananas.
- Take the BANANA, and cut both ends as shown.
- Now with the help of a sharp knife, make two slits on 1 side, and try to pull open the thick skin of the banana.
- Now you can remove the skin from all sides of the banana.
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in 1/4 cup of water
Can add 1/2 teaspoon of TURMERIC TO GIVE A GOOD COLOR. (optional)
Now is the time to fry chips.
- When the oil is hot, DIRECTLY SLICE THE PEELED BANANAS, into the HOT OIL.
- FRY TILL CRISPY.
- When you see the bubbles start disappearing, add 1/2 a teaspoon of the solution of saltwater.
- After 5 seconds you can remove the chips in a strainer and then onto the kitchen towel.
YUMMY BANANA CHIPS ARE READY.
SALT VARIETY IS READY. FOR THE SPICY CHIPS YOU CAN ADD RED CHILLY POWDER OR BLACK PEPPER POWDER.(just sprinkle and shake, when still the chips are hot to get good results.)
NOTE: After peeling if you do not fry the chips, the banana is bound to get oxidized and discolored.
So put the whole peeled bananas in a bowl of water, to avoid this.
