HEALTHY KARELA CHIPS

 Friends, have you ever tasted CRISPY KARELA CHIPS?
If not, do taste it once and you will love it.
Usually, when we talk about chips or wafers, we get the picture of Potato or Raw Banana Chips.
PEOPLE OF ALL AGES LOVE TO EAT THIS SNACK AND IT IS UNCONTROLLABLE.
But you know, first of all, making it is a long procedure and so people buy it outside.
Secondly, due to its heavy starch content, it is not healthy.
Making karela chips is a very easy task, but is healthy and yummy too.
So friends, why not try making this healthy version of chips, rather you can call it fritters with a twist.
We shall be using, BITTER GOURD, a very healthy vegetable, for making this snack,

To make a plate full of this YUMMY AND HEALTHY CHIPS, I have used one big Bitter Gourd.

Ingredients needed for making Karela chips

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Bitter gourd-1 big
  2. Corn flour-3 tablespoons
  3. Rice flour-2 tablespoons
  4. Refined flour (Maida)-1 tablespoon
  5. Turmeric powder-3/4 teaspoon
  6. Red chilly powder-1 teaspoon or more
  7. Coriander powder-1 tablespoon
  8. Garam masala-1 teaspoon
  9. Salt-1 teaspoon
  10. Asafoetida- 1/2 tea spoon
  11. Lime-1 medium
  12. Curry leaves- 2 springs

PREPARATIONS TO BE MADE FOR MAKING KARELA CHIPS

  • Remove the head and tail portions.
  • Cut the bitter gourd, lengthwise into two portions and remove the center portions and seeds.
  • Now cut  them as you like,(small slices as shown or big thin slices)

  • Put the pieces in the bowl of water. Add 1 teaspoon salt.

  • Leave for 5 mts and then remove the pieces, squeezing excess water.
  • Keep it aside.

  • Now take all the dry spices and add to the bitter gourd pieces.

  • Mix all of them thoroughly and at last add lime juice also.

  • Mix them once more.
FRYING METHOD OF SPICY AND CRISPY KARELA CHIPS
  • Meanwhile, keep a frying pan with oil for deep frying to heat the flame.
  • Let it become hot enough to deep fry.
  • Now is the time to add dry flour to the bitter gourd mix.
  • As you add the flours mix them nicely so that the bitter gourd pieces get coated with it.
  • Now the mix of bitter gourd is ready to go into the frying pan for deep frying.
  • Drop the mixture into the frying pan, with your hands and while doing this separate the pieces as far as possible.
  • In the same way, fry the rest of the chips.

  • Fry them flipping them from time to time, till you get a golden brown color of the chips.

  • Remove them with the help of a strainer.

  • Put the springs of curry leaves in hot oil and fry till crisp and serve with the YUMMY KARELA CHIPS.
  • Remove all of them on a kitchen towel, to remove the extra oil.

THE VERY YUMMY, HOT, SPICY, TANGY, AND MOUTH-WATERING CRISPY KARELA OR (BITTER GOURD) CHIPS ARE READY.
EAT THIS ANY TIME, WITH EVENING TEA OR AS STARTERS WITH LUNCH OR DINNER.
NOTE; You can preserve it in an air-tight container and eat it whenever you want.
(Shelf -life is 15 days, but I am sure it will be over, before that).
You can sprinkle chat masala to make it more tangy and spicy.
