If not, you will definitely try after knowing about the nutritional facts of this wonderful vegetable,  available in abundance, almost in every kitchen garden.
Everyone is now  HEALTH CONSCIOUS and eats ripe papaya, but even raw papaya has many good healthy nutrients.
RAW PAPAYA HAS ANTI-OXIDANTS, AND DIURETICS, IS RICH IN FIBRE, AND LOW IN CALORIES HENCE SUPPORTING WEIGHT LOSS, IS RICH IN VITAMIN C, AND VITAMIN  E, AND KEEPS YOUR SKIN HEALTHY KEEPING WRINKLES AND AGING AT BAY.
The most advantage of this papaya is that it is available all through the year.
Today I am going to show you a tasty dish, using raw papaya namely RAW PAPAYA SWEET AND SOUR CURRY.
It is basically a South Indian curry which is a sweet, sour, and spicy dish and can be consumed with Rice or Chapathi for lunch and dinner.

 INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE RAW PAPAYA SWEET AND SOUR CURRY

  1. Raw papaya medium sized-1 number
  2. Water-to cook 400 ml
  3. Tamarind-1/2 lemon size
  4. Jaggery 1 tablespoon
  5. Curry masala -4 tablespoons (given in the description box as Gojju powder or gravy mix in chutney…..)
  6. Green chilly-1 or 2 in number
  7. Curry leaves-8-10 in numbers
  8. Coriander leaves-a handful
  9. Oil-1 tablespoon
  10. Mustard seeds-3/4 teaspoon
  11. Asfoetida (hing)-1 pinch.
  12. Turmeric (haldi)-3/4 teaspoon
  13. Table salt-1 teaspoon

 PREPARATIONS NEEDED TO MAKE RAW PAPAYA SWEET AND SOUR CURRY

  • Take raw papaya, wash it, and remove sap (a whitish liquid that flows as soon as it is plucked).

  • Peel the raw papaya and cut them, remove seeds if any, and cut them into 1-inch pieces.

  • Soak Tamarind in water to extract the pulpy juice.
  • Slit the Green chilies.
  • Wash and chop the green coriander leaves.
  • Wash the curry leaves.
METHOD OF COOKING RAW PAPAYA SWEET AND SOUR CURRY
  • Take a frying pan. Heat it on a low flame.
  • Add oil to the pan and when heated add mustard seeds.
  • Let it crackle, now add green chilies and curry leaves.

  • when done add turmeric and cut papaya pieces and mix them.
  • Add salt and saute for a few seconds.

  • Dissolve it in 1/2 cup of water and put it in a pan and mix.
  • Now put 1 glass of water and let it boil for about 4-5 Mts.

  • At this stage check for the taste, for salt, sourness, and sweetness. (you can adjust)
  • Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle the chopped green coriander leaves on top
