HAVE YOU EVER TASTED ROASTED KARELA SPICY CRISPS? 

I THINK NO BECAUSE IT IS MY UNIQUE INVENTION.
Many of you might have tasted, karela chips.(deep fried )
But, this time I am showing you a very Healthy Recipe, which is Roasted in a very Nominal Quantity of Oil. It is a very Easy Method and is Spicy, so the Bitterness is very much reduced, hence can be easily made and Consumed.
BITTER GOURD OR KARELA IS A WONDERFUL VEGETABLE, THOUGH IS BITTER IN TASTE, IS A VERY NUTRITIOUS, AND HAS A NUMBER OF HEALTH BENEFITS.
I would like to mention some of them before starting the recipe.
  • Bitter gourd has a number of vitamins like A, B1, B2, B3, B9, and C, and Minerals like Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Phosphorous, Potassium & Calcium.
  • It has Anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.
  • It is liver-friendly and Detoxifies, so good for Alcohol Hangovers.
  • It is an excellent source of Dietary Fiber.
  • Bitter gourd contains Plant based Insulin, which helps in Maintaining Blood sugar levels.
  • It helps in lowering bad cholesterol levels, thus Reducing the risk of Heart attack and Stroke.
  • It helps in reducing Acne and helps in treating Eczema and Psoriasis.
  • It prevents premature skin aging and diminishes Wrinkles.
  • It helps in weight loss as it is low in calories, fat, and carbohydrates
  • It strengthens immunity and also prevents Allergies and indigestion.

So, after getting this knowledge, I think this wonderful vegetable should be included in our daily diet, 
in one or the other form.
  1. It is taken as Juice in Raw Form.
  2. It can be taken in the form of Curry,
  3. It is Deep Fried, with some Binding as in Bajji.
  4. Smaller varieties of karela are Stuffed and Cooked.
  5. It can be Shallow Fried or Roasted and some Spices are added to form Crisps.

TODAY’S RECIPE IS THE ROASTED KARELA SPICY CRISPS.

PREPARATIONS NEEDED:
  • Take about 250 grams of KARELA OR BITTER GOURD.
  • Wash them and slit them lengthwise to remove seeds, from the center portion.
  • Now cut into small slices as shown below.

                                (THINNER THE SLICE, CRISPIER THE END PRODUCT). 

  • Spread the pieces on a towel or anything to dry them in shade.

  • Drying overnight is the best option, do not dry in the sunlight.
  • Now it will be Ready to Roast.
Let us see the Ingredients needed to make these Crisps.

INGREDIENTS TO MAKE ROASTED KARELA SPICY CRISPS:-

  1. Bitter gourd or karela-1 big bowl (250 grams)
  2. Oil- 1 tablespoon
  3. Table salt-3/4 teaspoon
  4. Rasam powder-1 teaspoon or (Red chilly powder+jeera powder)
  5. Turmeric-3/4 teaspoon
  6. Asafoetida-1 peanut size
  7. Amchur (dry mango powder)-1 tea spoon or Chat masala
METHOD OF ROASTING KARELA
  • Take a thick-bottomed fry pan.
  •  Heat on a low flame,
  • Add oil to it and also Asafoetida.

  • Now add the karela pieces to it and Saute.
  • Now start Roasting on low flame Flipping the karela pieces so that all the pieces get Evenly Roasted.

  • When you touch and see, the pieces should feel crispy.

  • At this stage add the rest of the masalas, ie; Salt, Rasam powder, Turmeric, and Aamchur (Dry mango powder).

  • Combine all of them together and roast for another 1-2mts.

THIS CAN BE EATEN AS IT IS OR WITH YOUR MEALS AS ACCOMPANIMENT
TRY AND SAY HOW WAS THAT?
Note: You can change the spices:
1) You can use chat masala, instead of amchur powder.
2) You can use red chilly powder and roasted jeera powder, instead of Rasam powder.
3) You can also try black pepper powder and lime juice instead of chilly powder and amchur powder.
