GREEN GRAM USALI, is one of the healthiest recipes. This is because of its nutritive value.
Green gram also known as MOONG is good in whatever form it is taken.
WE CAN SOAK AND MAKE USALI, SPROUT AND CONSUME, COOK AND MAKE DAL, OR GRIND AND MAKE HEALTHY DOSA.
MOONG IS HIGH IN PROTEINS AND LOW IN CARBS. GOOD FOR SUGAR AND WEIGHT CONTROL. SPROUTED MOONG IS A POWERHOUSE OF VITAMIN C, B6, IRON, AND MAGNESIUM.
TODAY’S HERO OF THE DISH IS GREEN GRAM OR MOONG.

LET US START WITH THE INGREDIENTS OF green gram usali

  1. Moong (Green gram)-1 cup
  2. Onion-1 big finely cut
  3. Green chilies-5-8 in numbers
  4. Coriander leaves-handful
  5. Curry leaves-12-15 numbers
  6. Lemon-1 medium size
  7. Ginger-1 inch size
  8. Oil-1.5 tablespoon
  9. Chana dal-1 tablespoon
  10. Urad dal-1 tablespoon
  11. Mustard seeds-1 teaspoon
  12. Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
  13. Table salt-3/4 -1 teaspoon
  14. Asafoetida-1/2 teaspoon
  15. Water to wash, soak and cook the moong.
  16. Fresh coconut gratings-1/2 cup

  PREPARATIONS NEEDED FOR green gram usali

  • Soak one cup of moong gram (whole)in 3 cups of water after cleaning and washing them. Keep it
  • covered overnight.
  • The next day removes the extra water.
  • Put it in the cooker with 1/2 a cup of water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • Keep the cooker on medium flame and cook giving 2 whistles and let it cool.

  • Chop the onions, green chilies, and coriander leaves.
  • Grate the ginger after washing.
  • Squeeze the juice of a lemon.
  • Grate the fresh coconut.

COOKING METHOD OF green gram usali

  1. Take 1.5 tablespoons of oil in a frypan and heat it on a low flame till hot.
  2. Now add mustard and hing to it.
  3. When the mustard seeds crackle add chana dal and urad dal. Let it turn golden brown.
  4. Now add chopped green chilies, curry leaves, and grated ginger.
  5. Saute for 15 seconds and now add chopped onions and turmeric powder.
  6. Saute till the raw smell of the onion goes off.

  1. Now add the boiled moong grams to the pan and give a fine mix.
  2. At this stage add a little more salt and lemon juice.
  3. At last, add fresh coconut scrapings and coriander leaves.
