PROTEIN-RICH DAL DUMPLINGS MADE OUT OF A COMBINATION OF 3 DALS, NAMED 
AS NUCHHINUNDE. (KANNADA NAMEis my today’s recipe. Yes, it is a Karnataka Steam Delight. This is a very Soft, Tasty, Spicy, and Healthy dish, which can be taken as a Breakfast by all age groups.

  1. Chana dal-1/2 cup
  2. Tuar dal-1/2 cup
  3. Moong dal-1/4 cup
  4. Fresh coconut-1/2 cup
  5. Dil leaves-1 a big bunch
  6. Green chilies-8-10 in numbers
  7. Ginger-1 inch piece
  8. Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
  9. Asafoetida-1 peanut size
  10. Fresh lemon-1 medium
  11. Water -to wash and soak
  12. Oil.-to grease the plate

PREPARATIONS NEEDED FOR MAKING NUCHHINUNDE

  1. Firstly; Wash all the dals separately 2-3 times and soak them in different bowls and soak them adding 2 -3 times of water for 3 hours.
  2. Grate fresh coconut and keep it ready.
  3. Wash and chop Dil leaves, coriander leaves, curry leaves, and green chilies finely.
  4. Grate ginger and squeeze 1 medium size lemon.
  5. Now strain water from the dal and put it in a mixer grinder or food processor to grind a little coarsely.
  6. Take a mixing bowl, and add ground dal to it.

  3. Now add grated Coconut, chopped Dil leaves, curry leaves, and coriander leaves.
  4. Add 1 teaspoon salt, Asafoetida (hing), Turmeric powder, and grated coconut.
  5. Lastly, add lemon juice and combine all of them nicely with a spatula or hand.
  6. Now keep a steamer or idly maker with water in the bottom (for steaming).
  7. Taking a plate with holes or idly plates will also serve the purpose.
  8. Now smear oil on the plate or you can use pieces of plantain leaf.
  9. Take about a small lemon size dal mix and make dumplings, and arrange them on the plate kept for steaming.

  • Cover and steam for 15 minutes and it is done.

NOTE; As very nominal oil is used it is very good for health.
Dals are the main ingredients, so are loaded with protein, and can be consumed by children.
